I have been in a DIY/home decorating mood lately and have been determined to see how much I can save by doing certain things myself and/or shopping for less, i.e. thrift stores, Craigslist, sale/clearance items at some of my favorite stores. So far so good! My most recent DIY was an ottoman that I’ve had for a couple years. I found this red ottoman on sale at Target. At the time it went with my decor, but now not so much. Instead of tossing this one (because I love it and it holds my blankets inside) I decided to make it over to fit my decor/theme in my living room.
Here’s what I did…
- I got 4 yards of a fabric I liked (4 yards was too much for this project, but I would have rather had too much than not enough) from Hancock Fabrics
- I wrapped the fabric around the base of the ottoman (similar to wrapping a gift)
- I used my hot glue gun to secure the fabric onto the ottoman (you can use a staple gun if you have one, but I didn’t so my trusty hot glue gun came in handy and did the job well)
- Followed the same steps for the top of the ottoman
This was a very fun and easy project to do and it cost under $20 to recreate. Here are some before and after pictures.
Let me know what DIY projects you’re doing around your house. I hope this quick project was helpful to you in recreating a piece that just doesn’t work anymore.
Until next time…
