So, I quit my job

December 30, 2021

I’m officially a full time entrepreneur and I still can’t believe this is a reality. This is something I knew would be my path and I prayed about this years ago. This was not an overnight decision, this is literally years of praying, working, trying, failing, listening to God, and now finally reaping the harvest of those prayers and hard work. One thing I’ve learned is that many people desire to be an entrepreneur because of the allure of working for yourself, not having to answer to anyone and being on your own time, and while this does come with it, it’s not just that but so much more! When working a 9-5, the company is already established, there are guidelines for your particular position that you follow, and you have a set schedule and once your day is done, it’s done. With entrepreneurship, you’re building your company from scratch and alone for the most part, there aren’t a set of standard guidelines to follow because all businesses are different and even if they are in the same industry, what works for someone else’s business may not necessarily work for yours – you are literally figuring it out as you go. And everyone knows that the job of an entrepreneur is never done, your brain is always going and going and you probably work more hours than the 9-5. It truly isn’t for everyone, but I knew a long time ago that this is so me! Entrepreneurship allows me the opportunity to pursue causes I believe in and create my own path and optimum schedule and work setting – plus make the income of my desire.

When I started college I was a journalism major. From a young age, writing was my thing and in high school I attended classes and programs for journalism. I remember wanting to own my own magazine. The magazine would have topics related to women and women’s needs, similar to Ebony and Essence Magazines. My sophomore year of college I felt a tug to go in another direction – social work. I had a desire to help people and at that time I wanted to work with children and families, or so I thought. Throughout my time in undergrad and graduate school for social work I was introduced to the many fields of social work and explored various areas that piqued my interest. I worked in foster care, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, and child advocacy. I even did adjunct teaching in social work. Through each of those experiences in those fields I learned so much and felt like I served my purpose in those seasons. But none of those fields ever felt like my true match or fit, if that makes sense.

Someone recently asked me if I felt like I wasted time getting my degree in social work since I’m now leaving the field to run my own business and the answer to that is, no! Social work has literally laid the foundation for what I am doing through She Experienced. I needed to go to school for social work so that I could learn about mental health, about various racial disparities that impact our community like reproductive health, and how to meet people where they are! I needed to go to school for social work so that I could learn how to serve others and how to meet the needs of others. Creating She Experienced allowed me the outlet to pour into something I truly loved and enjoyed and also allowed me to return to my first love – writing. Through She Experienced I’ve been able to combine my love for writing and creativity and my desire to help women like me, thus creating my own path as a social worker. That’s literally everything working together for my good! Having my own clothing line was also a childhood dream, so now to be at a point where I’m literally creating and making my own apparel is also pretty insane. It’s all like a full circle moment and I couldn’t have planned this better.

I’m so thankful to be in this space and I owe all praise and glory to God. I hope that you will join me on this journey.

Thank you for being here,

It’s my BIRTHDAY 🥳🎉💕

Today I choose joy, gratitude, peace, abundance, love, hope and all the good things! Year 35 was filled with many ups and downs, but I’m so thankful for the growth, to still be here and to be in purpose. Although I was certain this birthday would look different, I know that God still has a great plan and a promise to fulfill. So, I enter chapter 36 with expectancy and faith 🙌🏽

Also, now that I’m over 30 and closer to 40 I can never remember my age. I always ask my husband how old we are because who keeps up with ages after 30?! 🤷🏽‍♀️

Anyway, cheers to 36 🥂 (P.S. if you want to bless your girl with a little birthday coffee money check my stories 🥰🙏🏽)

It’s June which means it’s my birth month 🎉💕

I remember last year at this time feeling sad about June because our daughter would have been born in June. But then God turned those feelings of sadness into joy as He began to show that He was doing a new thing for us as it related to our fertility journey.

I realized recently that this will be our third year of treatment, our third round of IVF, our third embryo transfer and we’ve lost three little babies (I’ve also had three surgeries and have seen three doctors). I’m always curious about the significance of numbers in the Bible. I remember experiencing a series of sevens during our first round. I found that the number three means harmony, God’s presence, new life and completeness. I don’t know if or how this applies to our next steps, but I’m choosing to hold onto His word that reminds me to forget what has passed for it is nothing compared to what He is going to do. I still believe God is doing something new and as I enter a new month, I’m claiming new blessings, new mercies, new paths and new streams 🙌🏽

What are you claiming this month? Let me know below ⬇️

Today we are celebrating the most special woman in our lives, our mommy @ms_dap21 🎉💕 Today she turns 60 and I’m so thankful that God has blessed her with another year of life and to see a major milestone. We’ve learned so much from her and she’s such a great example of a loving, hardworking, determined, strong woman of God.

Growing up we always celebrated her birthday together and when we all moved to different states, it made that tradition a little harder. So, to celebrate together this year in Mexico is such a blessing 💕 Thank you God!

God has really been working on me in the area of worry. During my 21-day fast that was one of our focuses, to abstain from worrying. Someone asked me, “how do you stop worrying? That’s so hard.” That was my question as well because for so long worry has been my first response to any type of threat, problem or challenge in life. Worry is the result of focusing on our inabilities instead of focusing on God’s abilities. The more I read about what God has to say about worry the more I realized that worry is a choice and we have more control over that thing than we realize.

God promises us peace but peace doesn’t just come magically. That promise of peace is conditional which means we have to do something in order to receive it - thus indicating that we have a choice. God promises us peace if our minds are fixed on Him, not on our problems. God knows that we will be faced with situations in life that will cause us to worry, but the beauty in this is that we can choose how to respond to those situations. We can choose to worry or choose to accept peace. We make it so complex but when you think about it it’s so simple.

If you are like me and you often let worry dictate how you respond to life’s challenges, I want to encourage you to choose peace. When you feel yourself being filled with worry or anxiety, turn those thoughts over to God and practice that every single moment the enemy tries to tempt you to worry. It’s not going to be an easy habit to break but we know that practice makes perfect.

If you’re choosing peace this week, let me know in the comments and share this with someone else who needs to choose peace 🙏🏽🤍
